Female yorkies are sweeter and more affectionate that male Yorkies. True Or False?
In our experience, male Yorkies are usually more affectionate, exuberant, and attentive compared to females. Male Yorkies tend to seek your attention and are very attached to their owners. They also tend to be more steadfast, reliable, less moody, more outgoing, and more accepting of other pets and children. Females tend to be more prone to mood swings; one day, she may be sweet and affectionate, and the next day she may be reserved and withdrawn, or even grumpy. Most female Yorkies will come to you for attention, but when they have had enough, they will move away. Males tend to be waiting for your attention. These are generalizations; individual personalities will vary.
Another interesting fact about Yorkies is that males tend to bond better with women in the home, and females tend to bond better with men in the home. Again, this is a generalization, but one that is something to consider.
Female yorkies are more docile as compared to male yorkies. True Or False?
In the dog pack, there is always an alpha male and an alpha female. Both alpha dogs determine the pecking order and compete to maintain and/or alter that order of their particular sex. Regardless of whether your dogs are whole or have been neutered or spayed, the most common fights are between two females.
Female Yorkies are easier to train than male Yorkies. True Or False?
Female Yorkies tend to be more independent, stubborn, and territorial than male Yorkies. Male Yorkies tend to be more easily motivated by praise and very eager to please. However, a male Yorkie can be easily distracted during training, as they just want to get to playtime! While some generalizations can be made, it’s important to remember that each dog is an individual, and their training needs may not reflect generalizations
The behavioral traits that we have discussed are as a result of many years of monitoring, living with, and experiencing multiple Yorkies. Some of these behaviors may never occur, particularly in a household that only has one pet. As stated before - we can’t say it enough!! – each dog is an individual, and has individual personality characteristics – just like people.
As a new Yorkie owner, you best understand your needs and expectations of your companion. Males and females both make excellent pets; it is just important to recognize that there can be differences, and to be knowledgeable about these when deciding on your new life companion. Please don’t hesitate to talk to us about each dog’s individual personality! We will do our best to match you with the puppy of your dreams.
