About Mistibleu Yorkshire terriers

Welcome to Mistibleu Yorkshire Terriers, we are breeders of quality Yorkie's. Lets first start by introducing ourselves, our names are Bob and Kim Balas.

We are the lucky caretakers of these magnificent Yorkshire Terriers. Our first experiences with the Yorkshire terrier came from first purchasing a show quality yorkie which we learned to show in the confirmation ring at AKC shows. From there we started to breed our Yorkshire Terriers in order to create our own Yorkie's for show prospects that carries the Mistibleu name.

Breeding a toy breed like the Yorkie came with a great many complexities, which in turn cut down on how many shows we could do. We have had to enlist the help of some very caring, professional handlers to do the showing while we stayed at home and could concentrate on the proper care and training of our Yorkie dogs and puppies. As breeders proper care and socialization is a must and this is the part that Bob loves to do. He loves to train and play with the yorkie puppies.

Although our Yorkie puppies are advertised on our web site there is a process every buyer must go through to ensure a “wonderful forever home " We take great care to select proper homes for our puppies and try to match each Yorkie to the proper home where both puppy and owner will have a happy long lasting relationship. Buying a Yorkshire Terrier puppy is a life long commitment and with that comes responsibilities. Here at Mistibleu we try to get to know prospective buyers before we come to any decision, speaking with a future client is only the first step towards owning a Mistibleu yorkie. We want what is best for our yorkie babies.  Our goal at Mistibleu is to breed healthy, happy Yorkshire Terriers with wonderful temperaments and shorter noses. As breeders we spend a great deal a of time with our Yorkie's as this is the key to our success. Each Yorkshire terrier has their own personality and as breeders we know that selecting the right homes for our Yorkie puppies is of utmost importance.

There are many sites out there that have extensive information about Yorkshire Terriers. Rather than repeating what has already been said, we'll give you our personal observations and ideas on what works for us in caring and training our Yorkshire terriers. As breeder we would be remiss if we did not share everything we know about our Yorkshire terriers with you.

Tips on Purchasing your new Yorkie:

Yorkshire Terriers, Yorkies for short, are a joy to have around and make great and loving family pets for many homes. Before you get caught up in the rush to buy one of these adorable puppies, there are a few things to consider too ensure that you buy the best puppy that you can possibly find.

Before even looking at puppies you should have good thorough knowledge of the Yorkshire terrier, a good start is the AKC standard for the Yorkshire terrier breed.  Next make sure your breeder is a show breeder with the best interests of the Yorkie breed at heart.  A competent breeder will not breed all of their dogs just because they are registered and pedigreed; they will select only the best Yorkies for breeding to minimize undesirable traits, both health and behavioral related, and to maximize desirable traits

Lately we have been reading many articles that state that you should never buy a puppy through the internet and certainly do not buy sight unseen.  That can be good advice if you do no know what questions to ask and have a habit of being taken in by a good sales pitch.

You will find that you will run into a several types of breeders when you call.  Some will not have the patience to answer all your questions as they produce a very limited amount of pups and breed to show and will place their pups with previous pet clients.  These breeders tend to be very short on the phone and sound not interested.  This is a turn off to many people and gives this wonderful breed a black eye.

Then you have the breeders that have a very good sales pitch but if you listen very carefully you will note that they are not really interested in where their pup is going to live, but only how soon you are willing to purchase and how soon they can get the pup to you. Do not be fooled by breeders trying to push Toy or the most popular Teacup Yorkies. There is no such thing as a Toy or Teacup Yorkie, just Yorkies that are smaller than others. Just by taking a picture of the pup in a teacup does not make it a Teacup Yorkie, there is no Teacup Yorkie.  If you have taken the time to read the Yorkie standard you will know that the Yorkie should be 3-7 lbs.  This does not mean that a litter will not contain a smaller or larger yorkie, just that this is what the Show Yorkie breeders are striving for.

Our approach is to let you tell us about yourself and tell us why you want one of our dogs and what kind of home you can provide, after all this is a long time commitment.  You can help us in the selection of your new puppy by telling us what your expectations of this puppy/dog will be.

We are show/breeders and have sold a fair amount of our puppies sight unseen, not without an extensive phone interview.  Many times our clients see their puppy for the first time when they either fly in to pick up their puppy or they fly me and the puppy to them.  In effect they have bought a puppy buy seeing a picture of it and a verbal description from me about the puppies personality. It is important for us to know were the puppy is going what its life will be like because not all puppies are the same.  For example some puppies will be great for older children then there are those who really only want adult companionship.

We do understand there are a lot of people breeding Yorkies since they have become the second most popular dog.  Any professional breeder will tell you that breeding any two purebred Yorkies does not mean you will be creating healthy dogs.  This first and foremost thing I can say is stay clear of Pet shops, they purchase their dogs from “puppy mills”, no responsible caring breeder or shall we say reputable breeder would ever put their puppies in a pet store, not knowing where there puppies will live and how they will live and be loved and taken care of.

“Puppy mills” have one purpose, pump out enough puppies to make a good profit, not caring if they are creating puppies with health defects or puppies that don’t even look like the breed they proclaim.

A good breeder also invests in the proper care for all of their new puppies. Yorkie puppies are extremely fragile when born and do not really become self sufficient or able to be separated from their mother until they are 3 months of age or older. Before this time they are very susceptible to health conditions such as hypoglycemia and allergies to vaccinations. For these reasons, it is important to never buy a Yorkshire terrier puppy younger than this age or before the puppy has at least two of the three required rounds of vaccinations. Any breeder who wants to bypass the waiting period and sell their puppies earlier than 3 months does not have the health of the puppy in mind and would likely not be the best breeder to deal with.  The Yorkshire terrier is a lively and hardy breed, but just as with all purebreds, they can be prone to developing certain health and behavioral conditions. By doing a little research and taking a few precautionary assessments before deciding which puppy to buy, you can greatly reduce your chances of purchasing a puppy that will cause you a lot of heartache down the road.

In conclusion, do your research see if the breeder you choose provide will give you references and don’t be in a rush, after all the right puppy/dog is going to be with you for a long time.

Thank you for visiting Mistibleu Yorkies!
